Beyonce's dad weighs in on 'queen' flap

NEW YORK - Beyonce's father says Aretha Franklin's criticism of his daughter for referring to Tina Turner as "the Queen" at the Grammys is "ridiculous."

On Tuesday, the Queen of Soul let everyone know her royal feathers were ruffled when Beyonce called Turner "The Queen" before their joint performance Sunday at the Grammys. Franklin, who also performed at the ceremony, was sitting in the audience: Beyonce did reference her along with other top female singers before introducing Turner.

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

Beyonce should have questioned the term, "Queen" immediately after she read the copy. Aretha Franklin was sitting in the audience and is known, world-wide, as "The Queen," "Queen of Soul," "Lady Soul," etc. Just think if James Brown was sitting there and somebody introduced Tom Jones as "The Godfather" or "The Godfather of Soul"? He wouldn't have liked it, either.

Beyonce and her father had better be glad that it was Aretha who was insulted and not "The Queen of the Blues," the temperamental diva, DINAH WASHINGTON! That diva would not only have cussed Beyonce AND her father out, they might have gotten slapped too!

Aretha, I felt, was gracious, but serious. People on the Net seem to think she should have just kept her mouth shut. People, Aretha worked long land hard for her title! That girl was dodging bullets traveling through the South as a teenager to make it easier for shake dancers like Beyonce to do their thing on TV today. Miss Franklin has been in the trenches. She deserves the RESPECT she gets all over the world.

Plus, Tina Turner is a diva herself. She doesn't need to be introduced under some other diva's moniker. Beyonce should have said, "here she is, The Queen of Rock, Tina Turner." When she yelled "the queen" a lot of people expected Aretha to walk out.

I think they owe both Aretha and Tina an apology.
